Non-Hormone Treated Cattle (NHTC)

Includes Source and Age

It's simple – don’t administer or feed hormones, growth promotants, beta-agonists, or certain prohibited antimicrobials (not common in livestock products) to your NHTC cattle. But, if they're too important to give up entirely, then just take a few steps (which you’re probably already doing) to manage the calves in a way which assures calves fed or administered prohibited products are never sold as NHTC.

Overview

If you feed or administer hormones, growth promotants, beta-agonists, or certain prohibited (not common in livestock medicines) antimicrobials make sure the NHTC calves are segregated and/or identified differently from the non-conforming animals.

With the NHTC Program, we need a few more details such as what hormones are fed or administered to any cattle (if that even applies). We need to understand where you keep them and how you identify the cattle that receive them.

If you haven’t felt the need to track things that tightly, don’t sweat it. We provide training and all of the template forms you need to make your life easier. And don’t worry, the paperwork is not nearly as cumbersome as you may think.

Requirements

  • Cattle can’t ever receive growth promotants, hormones, beta agonists, or certain antimicrobials

  • Any cattle receiving products prohibited in the NHTC program requirements, must be identified in a way that indicates they no longer qualify for NHTC

  • All NHTC cattle MUST have a Program Compliant Tag (PCT) before they leave the ranch

  • Only home raised cattle qualify

  • Verify all Commercial and Pre-Mixed feeds by manufacturer with a Feed Tag/Label and NHTC Feed Letter of Guarantee (we can help)

  • Download the Prohibited Products Guide

Ready to get started?

  1. Complete and signed application (fill out online below).

  2. Completed and signed contract.

  3. Calving Records - Please make sure the records include the month/day/year for the calving group(s) you are trying to certify. (Photocopies of calving records are sufficient.)

  4. Head Count Support - Any records to help the Legacy Verified auditor to verify the number of calves you are trying to verify. Examples: Individual Calving Records, Vaccine Records with doses purchased, Cow/Calf Inventory Records, Branding Tally, Preg Check Records, etc.

*Please keep in mind that Legacy Verified cannot assign an arbitrary calving date for age verification. The first calf born must be documented and all calves in that calving group will be assigned the birthdate of the oldest calf born.

** If older calves need to be excluded from the group, those calves will need to be identified in a way so that they can be easily sorted and removed from the approved group at the time of shipping.

The application below covers Source and Age (SAV) and Verified Born in The USA ranches only. Please fill out this application in its entirety.

Please upload the following documents and information with your application. We will not be able to proceed with the phone and records verification until we have ALL the information.
